El Llanto (2024)

The story focuses on a supernatural phenomenon that connects three women through a terrifying cry, audible only to them.
The premise is engaging and interesting, presenting the potential for a psychological and supernatural mystery that addresses issues of trauma and perception.
The Argentinean film succeeds in immersing the viewer in an unsettling atmosphere, maintaining a leisurely, enveloping pace.
Ester Expósito leads the cast as Andrea, who bears the brunt of the inexplicable phenomena that unfold throughout the plot.

Expósito manages to capture the character's bewilderment and tension.
Mathilde Ollivier (whom we can see in ‘Overlord’, and Malena Villa share this trio of actresses who keep us glued to the seat waiting for events to unfold.
Their remarkable performances make the audience's feelings swing between them, and the way in which ‘El llanto’ is organised is scandalously good for them, because if we continue highlighting details, we have to count on a film editing that is curious to say the least, with trips between times and locations, but far from being unpleasant or detracting, it generates a good atmosphere and whose way of being, form a foundation that makes the rest of the film is created on something perfectly solid, which generates that the whole exercise is very good.
What really caught my attention was Martín-Calero's direction. Each shot is designed to make you uncomfortable and generate tension, but without falling into excess.
The light, sounds and silences play a crucial role in this constant feeling of unease.
El llanto' is a very good film, with an attention-grabbing story that offers the spectator many questions, and also injects them with an overwhelming need to know and to know; with scenes of terror that are not excessive but that leave the hairs standing on end when it is proposed, and with a magnificent performance by Ester Expósito. A stupendous work, very, very interesting.
