Daddio (2023)

Sean Penn was once a great actor. One of whom is often over the top, but great directors can get masterful performances out of him.

.
As the years went by, his personal problems, his notoriously bad personality on set and his habit of barging in where he wasn't called (Hugo Chavez, El Chapo Guzman, Zelensky...), these gradually pushed him away from the front line.

.
He has been on autopilot for two decades making mediocre films, and now that he has arrived at this “Daddio”, we have to recognize his performance.

But as time went on, the excesses became evident on his face (he looked more and more like Sylvester Stallone). The story gives what it gives and his characters are so over the top it's unbelievable.

.
Honestly, in real life, a girl gets in a cab, meets an older man, gets involved in things she doesn't care about, makes completely weird comments and a really creepy moment happens, a real girl, like I said, is reduced to two minutes and the movie is over.

.
The dialogue is stilted, the interactions are not believable, Sean Penn gives Dakota Johnson a thousand ideas at the worst possible moment, and of course you're left with a bunch of scenes that are unbalanced in the acting and felt like an eternity to me. .

.

The movie lasts just over an hour and a half, but when it's over you'll feel like three hours have passed.

.
It's a shame because the direction is good, it's very well produced and the idea was brilliant. This same movie with a script written for example by Wayne Wang, with a better actress, (Dakota Johnson is very pretty but not talented at all) like Dakota Fanning (talking about Dakotas) and having Sean Penn tied in short to avoid his usual acting excesses, would have been quite good.
