Captain America: Brave New World (2025)

The plot of the film revolves around Sam Wilson, who, after meeting with the newly elected President of the United States, Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrison Ford), finds himself caught up in a global crisis. His mission is to discover what is behind a conspiracy that threatens to plunge the world into chaos. With this premise, one would expect an action-packed thriller, but the end result leaves something to be desired on both counts.

President Ross, now played by Ford in place of the late William Hurt, has a similar lead role to that of Anthony Mackie's Captain America.

While the character has appeared in several films since his return in Captain America: Civil War (2016), it was in the second MCU film that he had the most development. From there we get his strained relationship with his daughter Betty (Liv Tyler) and the story of Samuel Sterns/Leader (Tim Blake Nelson), a villain who has been in storage for 17 years and who will play a key role in the arrival of the Red Hulk.

It is an entertaining film with interesting action scenes and little else, Sam Wilson is not good enough for a solo film, he is a character who does not have much of a career and yet he stands out because he is one of the few actors who really tries to do something in the film.

It tries to be a political thriller in the style of the great Captain America: Winter Soldier, but it falls into no man's land, a very predictable film that is full of clichés of the superhero genre, this is not the way to go.

New characters include the Israeli Black Widow played by Shira Haas, who will surely be more prominent in future instalments, and Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, played by Giancarlo Esposito, whose participation feels wasted.

It tries to touch on several themes (race, the super-soldier serum...) and it doesn't stop at any of them, just scratches the surface a bit and then continues with the political plot, which is not very interesting for the leading role it has.

It's one of the few UCM films that doesn't even make me smile, the humour is scarce and bad.

It wasn't long, but as I was leaving the cinema I was thinking more about what I was going to have for dinner than about the film itself, in 2 weeks nobody will remember it.

No one is looking forward to another appearance of any of the characters that come out of here, it's a film that no one asked for and no one will remember.
