Behind Her Eyes (2021)

This is a British miniseries directed by Erik Richter Strand, starring Simona Brown (Louise), Eve Hewson, who plays Adele, Tom Bateman (David) and Robert Aramayo (Rob).

The script is based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Pinborough, presenting an intriguing story that mixes mystery, psychology, jealousy, sex, betrayal, love and secrets.

It consists of six episodes that, despite what you might think, do not become tiresome if you are interested in these themes.

It is important to note that this is not an action series, so the pace is slower.

This approach allows us to get to know each of the protagonists in depth, generating suspicions about each and every one of them, and above all, inviting us to pay attention to the small details that can provide key answers.

All four characters are excellently developed and the performances are outstanding. The flashbacks, on this occasion, are not annoying; on the contrary, they add to the narrative.

The series was filmed in London and Scotland, and I can't fail to mention the beauty of the landscapes, especially the forests and the house where the protagonists settle down after getting married, which is truly charming (the bathtub, for example, is a real delight).

The fact that the plot revolves around psychiatry, night terrors, astral travel and greed (yes, greed in its deepest sense) is captivating and generates great expectation. This combination of elements makes the miniseries an intriguing and immersive experience.

It takes place in two different timespans separated by ten years (one mostly takes place during Adele's hospitalisation and the other in the present). It is elegantly shot, but with a certain cool parsimony, with some twists and turns that serve to stretch it out, and when it shows its cards, the plot and its externalisation can range from interesting to naïve.

In terms of production, it meets the current generic standards of quality, whether in production, photography and restrained performances, without standing out in anything for good or bad, with the sole intention of creating the ideal setting for the halo of mystery to keep us in suspense until we reach a WTF denouement, which in a matter of minutes reinvents/revents the series, to give it a different touch.
