Turner and Hooch- A 1989 Comedy Starring Tom Hanks

Turner and Hooch is a touching comedy starring Tom Hanks. This is a fun and lively film that brings me back to the whimsical comedies of the late 1980s and early 1990s. This is a buddy film in the vein of Lethal Weapon and Police Academy that is universally enjoyed by audiences and fans of these films.
Tom Hanks plays a dog owner in a relatable role. He plays a detective who works with Hooch (the dog) to find a killer. Hooch uses his enhanced sense of smell to find clues leading Hanks to the killer. Hooch is a wild dog who initially makes Turner's life chaotic. Turner is a "buddy cop" to Hooch, and the two function similarly to Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon.
Hooch dies at the end of the film, but his legacy lives on in the form of some puppies and a very close puppy who reminds Hanks of Hooch. The ending is bittersweet, and I feel for both characters.
As a fan of 1980s cop films, I enjoyed Turner and Hooch, and still watch it from time to time. It's a nostalgic movie and a trip down memory lane for me. Give it a watch if you enjoy such films, and it can be seen for free on YouTube or your streaming service of choice. Try the local public library for free rentals.
Looks like the type to make you shed a tear or two. Lovely having you around!
Thanks! It is a good movie and emotional.
I had completely forgotten about this one. We saw it at home when we were kids and love it. I still remember how methodical and practical the character of Tom Hanks was. Although the movie was not a success, I remember once Tom Hanks said he had to work more in this movie than many of the movies he was in. Those buddy cop movies of the eighties were so cool. My favorite is still 48 Hrs. (1982), if you haven’t seen it, well, you must. Thanks for the memories.
