It's been a long time since I saw this movie. One of the things that stood out for me was that so many of the scenes took place in the main branch of the NYC library. This is a building I had visited many times, so it was doubly impressive.
Plus, the library is representative of 'institution'... it is a monumental structure and also a repository of knowledge. It's kind of ironic that this repository of knowledge would be the refuge for people who were essentially the victims of ignorance. If establishment scientists had only listened to Jack's warnings, much of the tragedy might have been avoided.

I also wondered why the "library" of all buildings that they setup maybe it's because they can make fires out of the books but for a library that is big and it's also an open space, I don't think anyone could survive that because at the end, most of the buildings were frozen and the small buildings were covered with lots of snow.
Anyway, the movie itself is great and it reminds us on how dangerous a catastrophe can be if like that will happen one day in real life.
