I managed to see the substance and I feel that there are not enough words to explain how good it is, to explain the experience I had at the cinema when I went to see it. It happens that I love movies and I had never seen a movie like this in theaters (a body horror movie), and besides, I really thought that here in Venezuela I could not see a movie of this style, since they do not have much audience here; only yesterday, when I saw the movie, in the theater there were only seven people counting me, and a couple of those people were a couple that by the end were already seeing each other a lot on the phone.
So, for the simple fact of being from Venezuela and that the film is here, I need to recommend it and make everyone see it, because it is not only a film that because of its sound design and its incredible photography is more enjoyable in the theater, but also because it is one of those films in which you enjoy the experience of watching it with people around you, to see what faces they make, how they react, what kind of things they do with certain scenes. It's a child of the most unhinged body horror and it's almost a miracle that such a movie exists and has so much marketing.
The substance is the second film by director Carolie Fargeat, and tells us how an actress who is falling into decline because of her age, gets a drug that will make her create “another me”, younger, prettier and “perfect”, with the condition that this clone has to have a balance with the original me, and exchange lives every seven days without exception. From there the story, which is an obvious criticism of the insatiable search for approval and a perfect body, becomes more and more addictive and intriguing, with a perfect dose of both gore and body horror that reminds us of the golden age of Croneberg, St. Raimi, Kubrick, practical effects and new meat, with performances that are possibly the best performance of all the actors and actresses who appear in the film.
Sometimes, seriously, I try to speak highly of a film and pass over its flaws, but this one I honestly think it doesn't have a single one. If there is something that bothered me it was the excessive amount of shots to Sue's body (the other me), but understanding the whole story I think it is really something necessary, as well as the caricatured characterization of the businessmen, but as with the previous mentioned, I understand that it is due to how the story is being told. Also, the ending may have been dragged out and ended up being very absurd, but after two hours of watching the movie, you perfectly accept that ending that falls like a ring to the finger and that, if you think about it, could not have been another one. Therefore, the film seems to me a masterpiece and an instant classic, one of those that are rarely seen on the big screen and need more recognition, but I understand that not everyone thinks the same way I do.

Logre ver the substance y siento que no hay palabras suficientes para explicar lo buena que es, para explicar la experiencia que tuve en el cine al ir a verla. Pasa que me encanta el cine y nunca había visto una película así en cines (una película de body horror), y además, realmente pensé que aquí en Venezuela no podría ver una película de este estilo, ya que no tienen mucha audiencia aquí; tan solo ayer, al ver la película, en la sala estaban solo siete personas contándome, y un par de esas personas eran una pareja que ya para el final se veían mucho en el teléfono.
Entonces, por el simple hecho de ser de Venezuela y que la película esté aquí, necesito recomendarla y hacer que la vea todo el mundo, ya que no solo es una película que por su diseño sonoro y su increíble fotografía se disfruta más en el cine, sino porque también es de esas películas en las que disfrutas la experiencia de estar viéndola con gente a tu alrededor, de ver que caras ponen, cómo reaccionan, que tipo de cosas hacen con ciertas escenas. Es una película hija del body horror más desquiciado y es hasta casi un milagro que una película así exista y tenga tanto marketing.
The substance es la segunda película de la directora Carolie Fargeat, y nos cuenta como una actriz que está cayendo en decadencia por su edad, consigue una droga que hará que se cree “otro yo”, más joven, más lindo y “perfecto”, con la condición de que este clon tiene que tener un balance con el yo original, e intercambiar vidas cada siete días sin excepción. A partir de ahí la historia, que es una obvia critica a la búsqueda insaciable de aprobación y de un cuerpo perfecto, se vuelve más y más adictiva e intrigante, con una dosis perfecta tanto de gore como de body horror que hace recordar a la época dorada de Croneberg, de San Raimi, de Kubrick, de los efectos prácticos y de la nueva carne, con actuaciones que son posiblemente la mejor actuación de todos los actores y actrices que salen en la película.
A veces, en serio, trato de hablar muy bien de una película y pasar por un lado a sus fallas, pero esta sinceramente creo que no tiene ni una. Si hay algo que me incomodo fue la cantidad excesiva de planos al cuerpo de Sue (la otra yo), pero comprendiendo toda la historia me parece realmente algo necesario, al igual que la caracterización tan caricaturesca de los empresarios, pero al igual que con lo anterior mencionado, entiendo que es debido a cómo se está contando la historia. También puede que el final se haya alargado y termine siendo muy absurdo, pero después de dos horas de estar viendo la película, aceptas perfectamente ese final que cae como anillo al dedo y que, si lo piensas, no pudo haber sido otro. Por eso, la película me parece una obra maestra y un clásico instantáneo, de esos que son muy muy poco vistos en pantalla grande y que necesitan más reconocimiento, pero que entiendo que no todo el mundo piense igual que yo.

Creo que todos queremos ver esta película y vamos con altas expectativas por las críticas. Me gusta como dices que no tiene errores pero luego como que si 🤣🤣🤣
Está bien... Muchas películas que no me gustan cuando las veo, luego de días pensándola bien, resulta que si me gusta, y también en casos contrarios.
Está genial que el cine nos dé más de la hora y cincuenta que duraron..
Las criticas no mienten, esta a la altura. Es que se podria decir que la peli tiene errores, pero dentro de lo que busca entonces no cuenta como error, o tal vez sea solo cuestion de gustos.
Y si, me encanta cuando una peli se queda contigo después de haber terminado.
