Film Review: Raging Bull🎥

I’m a very big movie lover and I always make sure to see at least, two movies in a week. Today, I come to you all with a very nice and lovely movie titled Raging Bull by Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff. This movie follows the career of LaMotta which was played by De Niro.
Back in 1941, there existed a young, up-and-coming middleweight boxer named Jake LaMotta, in the USA, New York to be precise. He encountered his first loss when he had a fight with a great player, Jimmy Reeves.
With time, Jake continued to have more fight and got more better and confident in fighting that his brother, Joey, discussed a potential shot about the middleweight title through the help of a Mafia connection he had but Jake refused their help.
Jake never wanted any help from the Mafia connection which resulted into him having to fight all the battles and wanting to win all the championships on his own.

Let’s see a trailer.

After sometime, in 1943, Jake spotted an underage girl, Vickie at the swimming pool. Merely seeing her, he loved her already but Jake was married to someone else while the girl was underage and would not be able to get married. Jake continued to have more fights with great boxers including people like Sugar Ray Robinson. One thing led to another and as at 1945, Jake got married to his dream woman, Vickie.
Things didn’t go well between them as Vickie expected it to.
After their marriage, she found out that Jake LaMotta is a very jealous man. Jake never wants to see Vickie with any man. If he does, he will fight the man and eventually get home to beat his wife. Vickie was dissatisfied with the marriage and that really pushed her out to dating Joey without the knowledge of her husband. Jakes jealousy became so evident that people like Joey could tell that Vickie didn’t have a happy home.

As Jake kept on having more fights, he sadly lost a match to Billy Fox which got him suspended for a short time and he eventually bounced back and fought for the middleweight championship against Marcel Cerdan in 1949 and Jake LaMotta won the match.
After a year, his level of insecurity took to the moon. He was so keen that Vickie liked and was seeing other men. He did that to the point of pressing Vickie which later made her confess to him that she had slept with Joey and some of his gangs like Salvy and Tommy.
Jake was at the peak of his anger after hearing that and took to Joey’s house. He assaulted Joey in the presence of his family including his kids.

Vickie was so angry that she threatened to move out of they house but after so much talks, they both reconciled. Jake tried to reconcile with this brother, Joey too but things didn’t work well between them and Jake’s career declined very fast especially when he had a final match encounter with Sugar Ray Robinson in 1951.
By 1956, Jake was a retired boxer already so he moved to Miami with his family and became a club guy who visits the club almost every night. Vickie got tired of not able to spend quality time with her husband so she filed for a divorce and also took full custody of their children.
Let’s see more trailer.

Just after that, Jake was arrested by the police for introducing younger girls to men in the club. He even tried to get himself out of the mess but he wasn’t able to bribe them which led him to jail.
Jake went to jail in 1957 and got back to New York in 1958 where he met Joey and they reconciled.
I wonder what led Jake into performing stand up comedy in clubs but that’s what he did for his entire lifetime and chants I’m the boss before taking the stage.

What’s the downside of this story? It may not be a downside to you but I don’t like the way Vickie and Jake didn’t reconcile.
